Demon: The Fallen (German title Demon: Die Gefallenen ) is a pen & paper role-playing game that is set in the fictional game world " Welt der Dunkelheit " ( World of Darkness ). The series was published by the US publisher White Wolf . The land register of pen and sword was published as a translation.

The game comes from the "classic World of Darkness" and deals with the myth of fallen angels. Within the “new World of Darkness”, the game series “ Demon: The Descent ” deals with a comparable topic.

Background in the game world

The game establishes the background that angels created the world on God's behalf, whereby this creation took place in parallel on different levels of existence. At the end of this creation, however, there was an uprising of the angels, which was ended by the banishment of the rebels to an area outside of creation. A part of the spirit world that is called the Abyss (in English: Abyss ) is the representation of this “outside” within creation. Only Lucifer escaped exile, for some unexplained reason, and has walked on earth ever since. In the early days of creation he succeeded e.g. Sometimes through human helpers, to conjure up his former followers from the Abyss into the world, but it turned out that they had become insane through their imprisonment in the Abyss. So at some point Lucifer did not perform any further incantations. The beings that were summoned to earth at that time are called Earthbound (in English: Earthbound ). Demon: The Fallen thereby establishes a retcon that demons, as they appeared in earlier books for other game series within the common universe , are such Earthbound.

For many millennia, nothing that mattered to the angels happened and the world evolved as described in the source materials of the other game series. Similar to the hunters from the game Hunter: The Reckoning or the new mummies from the game Mummy: The Resurrection only emerge again with the appearance of the respective game series in the world through certain triggers within the progressive continuity of the game series, is also the return of the angels an event that has only appeared in the game world for a relatively short time. The trigger is the imminent end of the world, which is already an established myth in other game series. This circumstance weakens the Abyss and leads to cracks that allow the weakest and therefore smallest of the angels to return to creation.

These fallen angels now merge with human bodies and form the player characters that are portrayed in Demon: The Fallen . These demons can have different goals, such as trying to atone for their guilt in the revolt against God, or to take what they rightly see as theirs.
