Charlaine Harris (born November 25, 1951 in Tunica , Mississippi ) is a " New York Times " bestselling author and prefers to write mystery stories. Growing up in the Mississippi Delta, she started writing when she was young. Her early works are mostly about ghosts and teenagers. She lives with her husband and three children in Magnolia ( Arkansas ).

biography

Charlaine Harris began writing poetry about ghosts as a teenager. She wrote plays and short stories while studying at Rhode College in Memphis . After their first marriage, she worked as a typesetter for various daily newspapers in Clarksdale, Mississippi and Greenville, Mississippi. Shortly after their second wedding, she started the first part of her Aurora Teagarden series and received a nomination for the Agatha Award . She was also an active weightlifter and karate fighter.

In the mid-1990s, Harris concentrated increasingly on other works and only published part of the Aurora Teagarden series again in 1999 . One of these new works was the Shakespeare series. Since 2001 she has written the Sookie Stackhouse book series , which is about vampires and other supernatural creatures. The screenwriter Alan Ball conceived the series based on the book series True Blood with Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, which was broadcast between September 2008 and August 2014 on the US television channel HBO .

In October 2005 Harris published another mystery series Harper Connelly , which, like her other series, is set in the southern United States.

Charlaine Harris is a member of the American Crime Writers League and the Mystery Writers of America Association . She is a member of the St. James Episcopal Church ( Anglican Communion ).
