Chappel Island is an island off the Budd coast of the East Antarctic Wilkesland . It is the largest of the Donovan Islands in the eastern part of Vincennes Bay and is located around 8 km northwest of the Clark Peninsula . The island is one of the breeding areas of the Adelie penguin .
Aerial photographs of the US American Operation Highjump (1946–1947) were used for initial mapping. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the island in 1971 after Chief Warrant Officer R. L. Chappel of the United States Marine Corps , who was responsible for the filming during Operation Highjump in the area between 14th and 164th east longitude.
