Charles-François de Broglie

Charles-François de Broglie , comte de Broglie, marquis de Ruffec (born August 20, 1719 - August 16, 1781 ) was a French diplomat.

Charles-Francois was a son of Marshal François-Marie de Broglie and a brother of Marshal Victor-François de Broglie .

In 1752 he was appointed envoy to the court of King August III. of Poland and tried in the secret order of King Louis XV. to pave the way for the Prince of Conti to the Polish throne, but was ousted from his post by the intrigues of his opponents and therefore served in the corps of his brother, the Duke of Broglie, in the Seven Years' War from 1758 . In the camp, too, he continued his secret correspondence with the king.

In 1762 he was involved in the overthrow of his brother and banished to his estates, but kept the direction of the secret diplomacy in hand, which revolved particularly around Polish affairs and the preparation for a landing in England.

In 1764 he was called back to court, but in 1773 referred to Aiguillon for the second time. After Louis XV. Death pardoned, he died on August 16, 1781.
