Charles Abel

Charles Nicolas Abel (born December 2, 1824 in Diedenhofen , † May 2, 1895 in Guentrange ) was a Franco-German lawyer and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Abel attended the Lyceum in Metz and the École de droit in Paris. He also made scientific and historical studies and was a lawyer at the Paris Barreau. Then he settled in Metz. Since 1870 he was municipal councilor, since 1873 a member of the Lorraine district assembly (Conseil Général de la Lorraine) for the 2nd Metz canton, and later also of the regional committee . He was also president of the Metz Academy, founder and president of the Societe Histoire de la Moselle, the Institute histoire du Luxembourg, the Societe des Antiques de France and a contributor to several magazines.

From 1874 to 1878 he represented the constituency Elsaß-Lothringen 13 ( Diedenhofen ) in the German Reichstag for the Alsace-Lorraine protest party.

Honors

The Rue Charles Abel in Metz is named after him.
