Charles Bardot (born April 7, 1904 in Algeria , † unknown) was a French football player .

Club career

The striker Bardot started playing football in the French-occupied Algeria. The player, who was also a professional soldier, ran for RC Philippeville from his hometown until he moved to metropolitan France in 1926 and found a new employer at AS Cannes . With Cannes he made several appearances in the national cup and made it into the cup final in 1932 . He was called up in the final against RC Roubaix , but like his teammate Stanley Hillier he was injured and could not continue to participate in the game. Because substitutions and substitutions were not allowed at the time, the team had to continue playing with nine players, but despite everything, they won 1-0 and won the title.

In the year of the cup success, Cannes was one of the twenty clubs that founded Division 1, a national professional league . Bardot was not on the field when his team started the competition on September 11, 1932 with a 5-5 draw against SC Fives , but was then usually part of the first team as a regular and reached the finals with his team for the championship, which was only held in the opening year of Division 1. He was used in the game against Olympique Lille , but his team were defeated 3: 4 and missed a possible title win. Bardot, who was considered physically strong and athelitic, then had to fight for his place in the first team and was not always seeded, but remained loyal to the club. In 1936, at the age of 32, he ended his professional career after 59 first division games and 19 goals.

National team

Bardot was 20 years old when he made his debut for the French national team on March 22, 1925 in a 7-0 defeat in a friendly against Italy . Together with André Liminana , who also played the game, he was the first player from an Algerian club to be allowed to wear the French jersey. However, further appointments to the team were only made after he moved to France in 1926. On April 15, 1928, he scored his first two goals in an international match against Belgium. He last wore the national jersey on April 10, 1932. He had played a total of six international matches and scored three goals, but was not included in the squad for the 1930 World Cup .
