Charles César Robin (* 18th century France ; † 19th century) was a French writer and financial expert.

Life

Charles César Robin was the author of the much-noticed travel report Voyages dans l'intérieur de la Louisiane, de la Floride occidentale, et dans les isles de la Martinique et de Saint-Domingue. 1802-1806 . Very little is known about him and he is sometimes mistaken for other people, such as the Abbé Robin (1750–1794).

He probably lived mostly in Paris. In the winter of 1793–1794, however, he stayed in Lorraine . He was a Deist and he is considered a moderate and constant supporter of Napoleon. "The horrors of the revolution" would have driven him out of France. In the autumn of 1802 he first traveled to Nantes . He stayed there for over 3 months before he could go on a 33-day sea voyage to Saint-Pierre in Martinique in the Caribbean. His only son, who accompanied him, died soon after of yellow fever. On his further route were Puerto Rico , Santo Domingo (arrival June 22, 1803), Jamaica , Cuba , Pensacola , the then capital of West Florida, Dauphin Island and New Orleans . So he came to the colony of Louisiana, which was just handed over from Spain to France and shortly afterwards sold to the still young USA. From New Orleans, he traveled inland for several months. In 1807 he published his three-volume travelogue, which was translated into German a little later.
