Charles Jerome Hopkins

Charles Jerome Hopkins (born April 4, 1836 in Burlington / Vermont , † November 4, 1898 in Athenia, New Jersey ) was an American composer , music teacher and promoter.

Hopkins first studied medicine, then music, and became a music teacher. In 1856 he founded the American Music Association in New York City , the Orpheon Free Music Schools in 1865, and a music magazine in 1868. Of his more than seven hundred works, his two operas , a symphony , the Easter Festival Vespers with three choirs, two organs, orchestra, harp and cantor, and the Fantasy for five pianos are particularly worthy of mention. He also published collections of organ music and several hymn books.
