Christopher Hughes Edward Charles Lavy (born August 16, 1842 in Hamburg ; † May 10, 1928 there ) was a Hamburg merchant, industrialist and politician.

Life

Lavy was the company owner Charles Lavy & Co . Around 1900, the company, which was active in the import and export trade and also appeared as a manufacturer of outerwear and umbrellas, is said to have had 500 employees. From 1882 to 1910 Lavy belonged to the Hamburg citizenship , he was a member of the Left Center parliamentary group . He was a member of the finance deputation, formerly a member of the military replacement commission; Lavy was a member of the deputation for indirect taxes and duties in 1881. He also acted as a commercial judge , was a member of the deputation for lighting and the tax assessment commission for expropriations .

Lavy case

In the riot in January 1906 over the electoral robbery, a son of Lavys was beaten by the police, which led to a scandal. Police major Diestfeld confirmed to his officers that they had acted correctly. [...] Diestfeld said [...]: "Mr. Lavy put himself in danger, my officers were cleaning up and he was cleaned up too"

Edward or Eduard Otto Charles Lavy, was Lavy's father, therefore Lavy is also known as Charles Lavy junior. Charles Robert Ashbee was a nephew of Lavy.
