Charles Letourneau

Charles Letourneau (born September 23, 1831 in Auray , † February 21, 1902 in the 6th arrondissement of Paris ) was a French ethnologist , sociologist and anthropologist .

Life

Charles Letourneau joined the Société d'anthropologie de Paris (Anthropological Society of Paris) in 1865 . In 1886 he became its president and from 1887, succeeding Paul Broca, who held this position until 1880, its general secretary. He was able to maintain this position, which was put to a vote every three years, until his death.

Charles Letourneau was also a professor at the École d'anthropologie (anthropological school) in Paris and author of numerous works on the history of the development of civil society institutions and human culture in general.
