Charles Newman (* 22. February 1901 in Chicago , Illinois ; † 9. January 1978 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American songwriter and composer , who for a Oscar nomination.

Life

Sweethearts on Parade is the name of the romantic musical for which Newman wrote a song under the same title in 1930. It was his first film for which he contributed music. From 1938 to 1944 he was in demand as a copywriter for many film productions. At the Academy Awards in 1945 he was nominated for an Oscar with Lew Pollack for their song Silver Shadows and Golden Dreams from the figure skating film musical Belita dances .

After the end of the war he wrote a number of songs for films until 1949. Some of his songs found their way into films made after his death.
