Charles O'Neal

Charles O'Neal (born January 4, 1904 in Raeford , North Carolina , † August 29, 1996 in Beverly Hills , California ) was an American screenwriter and novelist.

He wrote the scripts for several Hollywood films in the 1940s and 1950s. From the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s, he mainly worked for television. Before working in the film business, he studied at the University of Iowa . He was also an actor in his youth at the Old Globe Theater, San Diego .

In 1949 he won the Christopher Award for his debut novel The Three Wishes of Jamie McRuin . He was a co-author of the novel The Thirty-Second Day , published in 1964 . His first novel was implemented as a theater play in 1951, O'Neal was involved as a producer. The piece Praise Hoyes followed three years later .

He was the father of Ryan O'Neal (* 1941), who is active as an actor. One of his grandchildren is the actress Tatum O'Neal .
