Charles Ritchie Russell, Baron Russell of Killowen , PC (born January 12, 1908 , † June 23, 1986 ) was a British lawyer and a member of the House of Lords as Lord Judge .

Life

Russell was born the only son of Frank Russell and his wife Mary Emily Ritchie. His paternal grandfather was Charles Russell, Baron Russell of Killowen , who was also Lord of Appeal in Ordinary and Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales , while his maternal grandfather was the politician Charles Thomson Ritchie .

In 1962 Russell was appointed Privy Counciler and that same year a judge on the Court of Appeal , a position he held until 1975. On September 30, 1975 he was called to the House of Lords as Baron Russell of Killowen, of Killowen in the County Down . Russell was a good friend of Richard Wilberforce, Baron Wilberforce .
