Frank Russell, Baron Russell of Killowen

Francis "Frank" Xavier Russell, Baron Russell of Killowen PC KC (* 2. July 1867 ; † 20th December 1946 ) was a British lawyer who most recently as Lord of Appeal in Ordinary , due to the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876 as a Life Peer and Member of the House of Lords .

Life

Russell, son of the barrister and later Lord of Appeal in Ordinary and Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales Charles Russell, Baron Russell of Killowen , also completed a law degree after school and was admitted to the bar in 1893 ( Inns of Court ) from Lincoln's Inn . He then took up a position as a barrister and in 1908 was first crown attorney ( King's Counsel ) and in 1913 a so-called “bencher” of the Lincoln's Inn Bar Association for his legal services .

In 1919 Russell became a judge at the Chamber of Commerce ( Chancery Division ) at the High Court of Justice responsible for England and Wales , where he worked until 1928. After completing this judicial activity, he was appointed judge ( Lord Justice of Appeal ) in 1928 at the Court of Appeal , the court of appeal responsible for England and Wales, where he worked until 1929. In addition, he was also appointed Privy Councilor in 1928.

By a letters patent dated November 18, 1929, Russell was appointed to the nobility under the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876 as a life peer with the title Baron Russell of Killowen, of Killowen in the County of Down to the member of the House of Lords and served until his Death in 1946 as Lord Judge ( Lord of Appeal in Ordinary ). During that time, he was also treasurer of the Lincoln's Inn Bar Association in 1936.
