Charles van Beveren
Charles van Beveren (born April 6, 1809 in Mechelen , † September 16, 1850 in Amsterdam ) was a portrait, history and genre painter of the Romantic period.
He received his first instruction at the Academy of his hometown Mechelen and at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. From there he went to Amsterdam, where he was particularly concerned with copying paintings by old masters. Probably caused by an illness in 1832 and again in 1834 he moved to Italy and then to Paris. In 1849 he married in Amsterdam. Shortly before his death, which reached for him in the form of a stomach disease, he was appointed a corresponding member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences . Charles Van Beveren was regarded by his contemporaries as one of the most important colorists of his time.
