The Charlie Lake Provincial Park is a 176  ha large provincial park in Canada's British Columbia . The park is located on the west bank of Charlie Lake 15 kilometers northwest of Fort St. John in the Peace River Regional District . The park is located on British Columbia Highway 97 , the Alaska Highway , and British Columbia Highway 29 .

Opposite the park, on the east bank of the lake, is Beatton Provincial Park .

history

As with almost all provincial parks in British Columbia, this one too was the hunting and fishing area of ​​various First Nations peoples long before the area was settled by European immigrants or part of a park . Archaeological evidence of its use has not yet been found in the park. However, about nine kilometers southeast of the Charlie Lake Cave , which shows a corresponding indigenous use of the area for up to 11,000 years.

The park was established on May 20, 1964, and its status was last legally confirmed on November 1, 2005 when the reserve was expanded and the park reached its present size.

Flora and fauna

Within the ecosystem of British Columbia, which is divided into different biogeoclimatic zones with the Biogeoclimatic Ecological Classification (BEC) Zoning System , the park is assigned to the Boreal White and Black Spruce Zone . Biogeoclimatic zones are characterized by a fundamentally identical climate and the same or very similar biological and geological conditions. This results in a very similar population of plants and animals in the respective zones.

The park does not have a well-developed tourist infrastructure. However, in addition to a picnic area, the park has 57 parking spaces for campers and tents as well as simple sanitary facilities.
