Charlie Saikley

Charlie Saikley (born October 21, 1935 in Terre Haute , † June 17, 2005 in Manhattan Beach ) was one of the co-founders of beach volleyball .

Saikley was originally a teacher and had played volleyball games on the beach for a recreational program in Los Angeles in the 1960s. This later resulted in the first major beach volleyball tournament, the Manhattan Beach Open , which Saikley had organized for decades. At the same time, he was also the organizer of a volleyball tournament with six-player teams, which was and will be held as part of the International Surf and Health Festival.

Saikley was married and had four children. He died at the age of 69 years at a cancer .
