Charmaine Sheh
Charmaine Sheh ( Chinese 佘詩曼 , Pinyin Charmaine Sheh Sze Man ; born May 28, 1975 in Hong Kong ) is a Chinese actress who has been best known for TVB TV series since 1998. In 2018 she starred in The History of the Yanxi Palace .
life and career
Charmaine graduated from the International Hotel Management Institute Switzerland in Lucerne with a diploma in hotel management in 1994 and signed with the Hong Kong television broadcaster TVB in October 1997, after she came second in the 1997 Miss Hong Kong competition. The early stages of her career were often marked by her shy, squeaky voice and criticism of her acting skills. Charmaine overcame these problems, however, and made her breakthrough in Return of the Cuckoo in 2000, working with actors Nancy Sit , Julian Cheung and Steven Ma . Since then, Charmaine has grown into a well-known theater singer in Hong Kong over the years.
In 2006 Charmaine received two TVB Anniversary Awards for her performance in Maidens' Vow , including the Best Actress Award .
She also won the Top Four Actresses Award with Ruby Lin , Zhao Wei and Liu Yifei . Charmaine was the first Hong Kong television actress to be nominated for the semifinals in the Best Actress category of the 35th International Emmy Awards 2007 . In 2011 she was named Best Actress at the Asian Television Awards for her performance in Can't Buy Me Love .
After 14 years, she left TVB to pursue her acting career in China and returned in 2014 for a two-year contract with TVBC, a joint venture between TVB, China Media Capital (CMC) and Shanghai Media Group (SMG).
Line Walker is her first series since her return, in which Charmaine portrayed an undercover cop and was highly acclaimed for her role as "Ding Siu Ka" (丁小嘉). The series became the most watched TVB series of the year. She received multiple awards for her performance and won both Best / Favorite Actress and Favorite TV Character at the TVB 48th Anniversary Award Presentation, TVB Star Awards Malaysia 2014 and Singapore StarHub TVB Awards 2014.
