The Charter for Industrial Culture is a fundamental document for dealing with topics of industrial culture and industrial archeology . The charter (English: The Nizhny Tagil Charter for the Industrial Heritage ) was adopted in 2003 by the industrial culture organization TICCIH at its delegate assembly in the Russian city of Nizhny Tagil .
Guidelines
The Charter for Industrial Culture states that the archaeological and structural relics of technical innovations are also of great importance for knowledge of cultural history and that such legacies are therefore to be counted among the universal cultural assets and therefore to be identified, researched and preserved as historical witnesses .
Industrial culture includes material remains and sources that are relevant to the technical and social development of communities and to related scientific research.
The charter includes sites of economic and technological history , plants and factory buildings, places and facilities for the extraction of raw materials and for the generation and distribution of energy, storage and trading locations and settlements with a direct reference to economic activities.
With the charter, TICCIH called on all states to describe the important scenic and architectural witnesses of industrial history in their territories and to place them under protection. In a next step it was planned outstanding technological history monuments in the Heritage directories, the UNESCO to have it performed.
By training experts in industrial culture, establishing the relevant specialist institutions and with didactic activities, the states should ensure the permanent maintenance of the technical monuments.
