Chartular Chronicle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chartular Chronicle is a special form of medieval historiography . It combines narrative sections with the texts of numerous documents, mostly on the basis of a chart . As a rule, the documents are arranged chronologically, but documents relating to specific property complexes can also be dealt with together. This genre is used more often to describe the founding history of monasteries.

In addition to the Acta Murensia , the Chronicles of Zwiefalten and Petershausen or the Liber aureus of Echternach belong to this genre. The form is particularly common in Italy. In addition to the Regestum Pharphense of Gregory of Catino , the chronicles of Casauria , Carpineto or San Vincenzo al Volturno are examples.
