Chatra is a city in the Indian state of Jharkhand .

The city is the capital of the Chatra district of the same name . Chatra is administered as a Nagar Parishad . The city is divided into 22 wards (constituencies).

Demographics

The city's population is 49,985 according to the 2011 census. Chatra has a gender ratio of 882 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The literacy rate was 80.0% in 2011. Almost 67% of the population are Hindus , approx. 32% are Muslim and approx. 1% belong to another or no religion. 15.6% of the population are children under 6 years of age.
