The Cheap Suit Serenaders (also R. Crumb and his Cheap Suit Serenaders ) are an American "string band" that plays songs from the 1920s . One of their peculiarities is that in the 1970s, when this format was long considered obsolete, they released some of their records on 78rpm records. Her three LPs, all of which came out on the Blue Goose label , were R. Crumb and his Cheap Suit Serenaders (1974), R. Crumb and his Cheap Suit Serenaders No. 2 (1976) and R. Crumb and his Cheap Suit Serenaders No. 3 (1978). The latter two have been re-released as CDs on Shanachie Records under the titles Chasin 'Rainbows (No. 2) and Singing in the Bathtub (No. 3), all three also in 2002 on the Japanese label "Air Mail Recordings".

Robert Crumb was the front man and in charge of the plate illustration for the group; however, since he lived in France, he has largely withdrawn from their activities. The group currently consists of Bob Armstrong (vocals, saw , guitar ), Bob Brozman (vocals, various resonator instruments, including guitar and ukulele ), Al Dodge (vocals, mandolin ), Terry Zwigoff ( saw , cello , straw violin , mandolin) and Tony Marcus (vocals, guitar and violin ).
