Chegança

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chegança is a dramatic dance game in Brazilian music that belongs to the group of Pastorí dances.

The scenic folk games tell of the struggle between Christians and the Moors , taking up motifs from stories told by sailors and knight reps . It is identical to the Moros y Cristianos in Spanish-speaking Latin America and goes back to the Galician- Portuguese Villancicos of the 17th century, but also has similarities with the minuet of the 17th and 18th centuries.

It is predominantly widespread in the north and north-east regions of Brazil, where, in the folk tradition, the fear of an incursion by the Moors remained alive for a long time.
