Cheirogaleus shethi is a primate species from the group of lemurs that occurs in a forest corridor in the Diana regionon the northern tip of the island of Madagascar. Most of the previously known range of the species is under protection. It was only described in December 2016 and named after Brian Sheth, chairman of the non-governmental organization Global Wildlife Conservation . When English common names were Ankarana or Sheth's dwarf lemur proposed.

features

The holotype , a fully grown female, has a head-to-trunk length of 12.4 cm, a 15.5 cm long tail and weighs 123 g. Four other specimens examined have head-to-trunk lengths of 16.4 to 17.5 cm. The back, arms and legs and the head are gray, the belly is white, hands and feet are lighter than arms and legs. There is no central back stripe. A face mask is hardly pronounced. The region around the eyes is a bit brownish. This tint runs upwards over the front of the head to the top of the head. The animals are lighter between the eyes than in the rest of the face. The ears are only slightly hairy.

Cheirogaleus shethi can be distinguished genetically and morphologically from other types of fat- tailed lemur . All other species of the Cheirogaleus medius group have a head-trunk length of more than 17.5 cm and a weight of more than 165 g. C. shethi is the smallest species in the group. C. shethi differs from Cheirogaleus andysabini , a closely related species of fat- tailed lemur that occurs north of the distribution area of Cheirogaleus shethi in the Montagne d'Ambre National Park , in its smaller size and gray fur, the fur of C. andysabini is reddish brown.
