Cherleton (also Charleton or Charlton ) is the name of an English noble family, whose members gained a certain importance in the 13th to 15th centuries, especially as Marcher Lords in the Welsh Marches .

The family goes back to Robert Cherleton, who belonged to the landed gentry and was wealthy in Cherleton in what is now Wrockwardine near Wellington in Shropshire . One of his sons, Sir John Cherleton acquired through marriage to a Welsh heiress the feudal rulers Powys Wenwynwyn including Powis Castle and was in 1313 as Baron Cherleton to peer collected.

The male line of the family died out in 1421.
