Baron Cherleton
Baron Cherleton was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .
Award and history of the title
The title was created on July 26, 1313 for the English marcher Lord Sir John Cherleton when he was appointed to the royal parliament by Writ of Summons . He was wealthy in Cherleton in what is now Wrockwardine near Wellington in Shropshire and through his marriage to Hawise ap Owen had inherited the feudal Welsh rule Powys Wenwynwyn from their rights .
When the 5th Baron died on March 14, 1421, the title fell in Abeyance between his two daughters, Joan, wife of John Gray, 1st Earl of Tankerville , and Joyce, wife of John Tiptoft, 1st Baron Tiptoft or their heirs. The Abeyance has not ended to this day.
