John Cherleton, 3rd Baron Cherleton

John Cherleton, 3rd Baron Cherleton (also Charlton ; * around 1334, † July 13, 1374 ) was a Marcher Lord .

He was the eldest son of John Cherleton, 2nd Baron Cherleton and his wife Maud Mortimer , daughter of Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl of March . After the death of his father in 1360 he inherited his possessions, especially the reign of Powys Wenwynwyn in Wales and the title of Baron Cherleton . From August 1362 he was invited to the parliaments until his death .

He married Joan de Stafford, daughter of Ralph de Stafford, 1st Earl of Stafford and Margaret Audley, Baroness Audley, the marriage had been arranged by his grandfather John Cherleton, 1st Baron Cherleton in 1343. For the benefit of the Franciscan settlement in Shrewsbury , in whose church his grandparents had been buried, he made foundations, in addition he issued a charter for the Cistercian monastery Strata Marcella Abbey .
