The Cheyenne Union Pacific Railroad Depot is the former station building of the Union Pacific Railroad in Cheyenne , Wyoming . The building is now used as a railway museum.

The station building was built between 1886 and 1887. The depot was built from blocks of sandstone sourced from Fort Collins , Colorado . The depot is right across the street from the Wyoming State Capitol and signals its historical significance in the city and state. In 1922, extensive renovation and expansion work was carried out. From 2001 to 2006, the City of Cheyenne undertook extensive renovations worth $ 6.5 million. The space in front of the train station was also renovated.

The structure has been listed as a building on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) since January 1973 . The Cheyenne Union Pacific Railroad Depot has been a National Historic Landmark since February 2006 . The nearby Union Pacific Roundhouse, Turntable and Machine Shop has been listed as a Historic District in the NRHP since July 1992.

Events

The Cheyenne Depot Museum hosts an annual steam train excursion in July. Various music events are held in the square in front of the museum throughout the year.
