Chiesa di Santa Margherita dei Cerchi
The Chiesa di Santa Margherita dei Cerchi is a church in Florence , Italy . It is one of the oldest preserved churches in the city and was first mentioned in a document in 1032. The church became famous through the Italian writer Dante Alighieri and is also called the Church of Dante , Chiesa di Dante . Beatrice from the poet's works is said to be buried here. It is here that the poet married his wife Gemma di Manetto Donati in 1285. The church is named after the martyr Margaret of Antioch and the Florentine noble family of Cerchi and has become a place of pilgrimage for Dante lovers. People who have had a hapless love affair also make a pilgrimage to the church, to the church to put small pieces of paper with wishes in a basket provided. The church plays an important role in Dan Brown's novel Inferno .
