Chillicothe Correctional Center

The Chillicothe Correctional Center is a US state prison for women in Chillicothe , Missouri . In 2018, it accommodated around 1,640 female prisoners (2015: 1,340 prisoners), who were supervised and cared for by around 470 employees of the prison authorities and 80 other employees. There are 256 places for drug addiction treatment. Construction of the new building began on October 24, 2006 on 57 hectares north of Chillicothe, and the construction costs amounted to 121 million US dollars. The first prisoners moved in on December 2, 2008. The occupancy capacity is 1728 people, while the previous building could only accommodate around 480 occupants. The security levels minimum, medium and maximum are managed.

The prisoners take on auxiliary work in the public sector in road construction, landscaping and other activities in the town of Chillicothe, which has 9,550 inhabitants (2015). Among the prisoners is Gypsy Rose Blanchard , who was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2016.
