China International Import Fair

The International Import fair in China (English: China International Import Expo; Chinese:中国国际进口博览会), short CIIE, is a trade show held annually in the Chinese metropolis since 2018 Shanghai takes place. It is the first import exhibition on a national level.

The CIIE is jointly organized by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai City Government.

China's President Xi Jinping announced on May 14, 2017 that the People's Republic of China would host the CIIE from 2018. This should give the neighboring countries along the Silk Roads the opportunity to export more products and services to China.

The concept of the CIIE was adopted at the 36th meeting of the central leadership group for the comprehensive deepening of the reforms on June 26, 2017.

On October 31, 2017, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that the CIIE's office would be set up to prepare for the first exhibition.

The CIIE's mascot is a giant panda named Jinbao. There is a Chinese word game behind the name Jinbao, because Jinbao means both "treasure of the CIIE" and "bring wealth". The panda holds a four-leaf clover in his left hand and wears a blue and yellow scarf with the CIIE logo embroidered on it.

The CIIE logo consists of the earth (in the middle), an outer light blue circle, the Chinese and English names and the English abbreviation. The earth symbolizes the universality, diversity and inclusiveness of the CIIE.

The first CIIE took place in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, 2018. Under the motto “New Era, Divided Future”, representatives from 172 countries, regions and international organizations as well as over 3,600 companies took part in the fair.

The second CIIE is scheduled to take place in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, 2019. According to CIIE organizers, the exhibition space of the second CIIE should be larger than that of the first.
