Chinasat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chinasat ( Chinese 中 星 ; Pinyin : Zhōngxīng; proper spelling ChinaSat ) is the brand name for communications satellites that are operated and marketed by the Chinese company China Satellite Communications (China Satcom). China Satcom is also involved in other satellite projects and leases satellites to other operators.

China Satcom currently operates nine satellites (as of March 2019): Chinasat 5A , 6A , 6B , 9 , 9A , 10 , 11 , 15 and 16 . The company's former or no longer active satellites include Chinasat 1A and 2C .

history

Chinasat originally stood for China Telecommunications Broadcast Satellite , a company of the Chinese Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, and its satellites. This satellite operator merged with other state-owned companies to form China Satellite Communications Corporation around 2000 .

In the course of further restructuring of the state satellite operator , the brand initially fell to China Direct Broadcast Satellite (China DBSAT), a newly established joint venture of China Satcom , its "member enterprise" ( subsidiary ?) China Orient Telecommunications Satellite and the state-owned company Sino Satellite Communications . In 2009 this joint venture was dissolved and China Satcom was subordinated to the state space company China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC); Sino Satellite Communications was now also subordinated to China Satcom . Satellites previously operated by the two subsidiaries have been renamed Chinasat. ChinaStar 1 (from China Orient) became ChinaSat 5A, SinoSat 1 became ChinaSat 5B and SinoSat 3 became ChinaSat 5C.
