The Chinese Taipei Badminton Association (CTBA, English for Chinese  中華民國 羽球 協會  /  中华民国 羽球 协会 , Pinyin Zhōnghuá mínguó yŭqiú xiéhuì , W.-G. Chunghua minkuo yüch'iu hsiehhui  - "Badminton Association of the Republic of China") is the highest national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in Taiwan . The association was founded in 1956 internationally with the English name Taiwan Badminton Association .

history

When the association was founded in 1956, it only had around 200 members and two indoor playing fields. In 1985 the association already had more than 60,000 members. With membership in the Badminton World Federation , then still known as the International Badminton Federation , and the associated de facto recognition of Taiwan, a split was triggered within the world umbrella organization IBF in 1978, as a result of which the World Badminton Federation was founded under the leadership of China. After the dispute was settled, the IBF and WBF reunited in 1981. The Taiwan Badminton Association had to change its name to the Chinese Taipei Badminton Association. The association is also a founding member of the continental umbrella organization Badminton Asia Confederation .
