The southern yellow cattle is a zebu breed and is mainly kept in China , Vietnam , Taiwan and others - it has the high hump typical of the zebu. The Northern Yellow Cattle is not a zebu breed, so it has no hump; the Central Plains Yellow Cattle are a cross of both and have a small hump.

The Philippines cattle are derived from this. In Vietnam, the southern yellow cattle are also bred for milk production and are crossed with Sindh red cattle for this purpose .
