Chlothar IV.
Chlothar IV. (* Perhaps 685; † 719 ) was the Merovingian Frankish king in Austrasia from 717 to 719.
Chlothar almost certainly belonged to the Merovingian family, but it is unknown who his father was. It is conceivable that either Theuderich III. or Childebert III. his father is.
The disputes between Plectrudis , Karl Martell and Raganfrid , which already the government of his predecessor Dagobert III. had burdened, continued under Chlothar. Karl Martell defeated his Merovingian opponent Chilperich II and his caretaker Raganfrid at Vinchy (March 21, 717). Thereupon he raised Chlothar IV. To the anti-king. Chlothar, who was completely dependent on Karl, died in 719. Since at this point Raganfrid had become harmless after a decisive victory at Soissons , he decided not to raise an opposing king again and now recognized Chilperic.
