The Khodscha Doniyor Mausoleum ( Uzbek Xoja Doniyor maqbarasi ) is a building in Samarqand that was built in 1900 . It was built on a historic burial site and recently restored. Until the construction of the mausoleum there were tombs and a mosque here, which had been built during the reign of Tamerlan . Allegedly it is the tomb of the prophet Daniel and his companion Luqman , the narrator of religious stories.

Legend

The Arabic, biblically unproven , legend about the prophet Daniel originated in the 9th century and was handed down by the astronomers Farghani and Abu Maschar. According to her, the "young Hebrew" Daniel was persecuted and driven from Syria by idolaters whom he wanted to convert to the "right faith". The old man, seen in his sleep, urged the prophet to fight against the unbeliever and promised victory over all of Asia. Daniel gathered his followers in Egypt, where he found shelter, and founded Alexandria. Obeying the old man, he went into the field against the unbelievers. He returned victorious to Alexandria and lived there until his death.

The remains were supposedly brought back from Mecca by the Great Tamerlane . It is said that the hand of the prophet Daniel lies in this mausoleum. The length of the grave is 18 meters, which seems too much for the standard size of an arm. As an interpretation, there are two versions: according to the first, the hand grows year after year, according to the other, the size of the grave corresponds to the real size of the prophet Daniel, since he was simply a giant.
