Chongqing Temple

The Chongqing Temple ( Chinese  崇庆 寺 , Pinyin Chóngqìng sì , English Chongqing Temple ) is a Buddhist temple at the foot of the Ziyun Shan 紫云山 in the Setou 色 Groß community of the Zhangzi County of the Shanxi Province of China . It was built in 1016 during the Northern Song Dynasty .

In the Dashi Hall on its west side, the temple houses lifelike groups of sculptures made of painted clay from the time of the Northern Song Dynasty: the three bodhisattvas Guanyin ( Avalokitesvara ), Wenshu ( Manjusri ) and Puxian ( Samantabhadra ) as well as the eighteen Arhats ( Shiba Luohan ) .

The Chongqing Temple ( Chongqing si ) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (4-98) since 1996 .
