The Choral Synagogue in Minsk , the capital of Belarus , was built from 1901 to 1906 and converted into a Jewish theater from 1921 to 1923.

Before 1941, Minsk had a high proportion of the Jewish population. The majority of the Jewish population was murdered by the German occupiers during World War II .

The derelict synagogue became the seat of the Maxim Gorky National Theater.
