The Chori or Cori language is an endangered platoid language spoken in a single village in the state of Kaduna , Nigeria . Chori forms with the closely related languages Kagoma [kdm], Schamang [xsh], Hyam [jab] and Zhire [zhi] the subgroup of the Hyamic languages.
The speakers of the chorus are increasingly switching to English.
Chori is known for having six different pitches . There are three basic tones in total: 1 ( top ), 4 ( middle ) and 6 ( bottom ). Most cases of tone 2 ( high ) are a result of the tone sandhi : 4 becomes 2 before 1. The tones 3 ( medium high ) and 5 ( low ) can be analyzed as contour tones, since the actual / 1͡6 / realizes as [3] becomes and / 2͡6 / as [5] .
