Kaduna is a federal state in the West African country of Nigeria with the capital of the same name, Kaduna , which is also the largest city in the state with 1,582,211 inhabitants (2005).
geography
The state is located in the north-central part of the country and is bordered to the north by the state of Katsina , to the north-west by the state of Zamfara , to the north-east by the state of Kano , to the south-west by the Federal Capital Territory , to the south-east by the state of Nassarawa , to the west the state of Niger and in the east to the states of Bauchi and Plateau . The Kamuku National Park located in the northwest of the state.
population
The state of Kaduna is mainly populated by the Haussa , Gbagyi , Adara , Ham , Atyap , Bajjuu and Agworok ethnic communities . The religion with the largest proportion of the population is Sunni Islam . Sharia - Islamic law - has been in force in the state since the turn of the millennium . This regulation only applies to areas with a majority Muslim population ( see Sharia conflict in Nigeria ).

history
The state was formed on May 27, 1967 under the name "North Central". On February 3, 1976, it was renamed Kaduna. The first governor was Abba Kyari between May 28, 1967 and July 1975. The current governor has been Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai since May 29, 2015 .

The state is divided into 23 Local Government Areas . These are: Birnin-Gwari, Chikun, Giwa, Igabi, Ikara, Jaba, Jema'a, Kachia, Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Kagarko, Kajuru, Kaura, Kauru, Kubau, Kudan, Lere, Makarfi, Sabon-Gari, Sanga , Soba, Zangon-Kataf and Zarki.
economy
The agriculture is the main industry in the state of Kaduna. About 80 percent of the people are employed in it. There are yams , cotton , peanuts , tobacco , beans , sorghum , ginger , rice and cassava grown. Over 180,000 tons of peanuts are harvested each year. The main source of income is cotton, where Kaduna is the leading producer in Nigeria.
Cattle breeding is also important . This includes keeping poultry , sheep , goats and pigs . Another branch of the economy is mining . There are clay , serpentine , asbestos , Amethyst , kyanite , gold and sillimanite promoted.
