The Kamuku National Park located in the northwest of the state of Kaduna in central Nigeria . It covers an area of ​​1120 km² and is largely a flat piece of land. The eastern border of the national park is formed by the Birnin Gwari Mountains .

Flora and fauna

The vegetation corresponds to the vegetation type of the Western Sudan savanna , which in some places also has elements of the Sahel acacia savanna . The dominant tree species are Isoberlinia doka , Terminalia avicennioides and Detarium macrocarpum . The tree species Danellia oliveri , Nauclea latifolia , various species from the tribe of acacias (Acacieae), Lophira lanceolata , Parkia biglobosa , Prosopis africana and Isoberlinia tomentosa also occur. Elaeis guineensis particularly thrives on the floodplain in the gallery forests .

Larger mammals include the African elephant , roan antelope ( Hippotragus equinus ), reedbuck ( Redunca redunca ), West African hartebeest ( Alcelaphus major ) and small groups of lions ( Panthera leo ) in the national park.

The avifauna is just as rich in species; about 192 bird species live within the boundaries of the national park , such as the secretary (Sagittarius serpentarius), the bustard ( Neotis denhami ) and the northern ground hornbill ( Bucorvus abyssinicus ).
