Osun ( Ọṣun ) is a federal state of the West African country Nigeria with the capital Oshogbo and the holy city of Ife of the Yoruba .
geography
The state is located in the southwest of the country and is bordered to the north by the state of Kwara , to the south by the state of Ogun , to the west by the state of Oyo , to the northeast by the state of Ekiti and to the southeast by the state of Ondo .
history
The state was formed on August 27, 1991 from part of the state of Oyo . The first administrator was Lapade Ajiborisha between August 1991 and January 1992. The last governor was Olagunsoye Oyinlola. The current governor has been Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola since 2010.

The state is divided into 30 Local Government Areas . These are: Aiyedire, Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Ayedire, Boluwaduro, Boripe, Ede North, Ede South, Efe Central, Efe East, Efe North, Efe South, Egbedore, Ejigbo, Ifedayo, Ifelodun, Ila, Ilesha East, Ilesha West , Irepodun, Irewole, Isokan, Iwo, Obokun, Odo-Otin, Ola-Oluwa, Olorunda, Oriade, Orolu and Oshogbo.
economy
The agriculture and mining are among the most important economic sectors in Osun. There are cocoa , coconuts , corn , yams , maize , cassava , millet , bananas and rice grown and gold , clay , limestone and granite encouraged. An industrial , among others, are goods steel , machine tools and oil products produced.
