Kogi is a federal state in the West African country of Nigeria with the capital Lokoja . The largest city in the state is Okene with 479,217 inhabitants (2005).
geography
The state is located in the southern center of the country and is bordered to the north by the Federal Capital Territory , to the northwest by the state of Niger , to the northeast by the state of Nassarawa , to the southwest by the states of Ondo and Edo , and to the southeast by the states of Anambra and Enugu , to the west to the states of Ekiti and Kwara and to the east to the state of Benue .
population
The population is predominantly Christian , there are also Muslims and followers of traditional religions in the north . On November 11, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI was appointed the new Roman Catholic bishop in the capital Lokoja . Martin Dada Abejide Olorunmolu , the previous professor of scriptures at the Catholic Institute of West Africa in Port Harcourt .

It is divided into 21 local government areas . These are: Adavi, Ajaokuta, Anpka, Bassa, Dekina, Ibaji, Idah, Igalamela-Odolu, Ijumu, Kabba-Bunu, Kogi, Lokoja, Mopa-Muro, Ofu, Ogori-Magongo, Okehi, Okene, Olamaboro, Omala, Yagba East and Yagba West.
economy
The agriculture and mining are the most important economic sectors in Kogi. The ecological and climatic conditions favor the cultivation of yams , manioc , soybeans , corn , millet , rice , coconuts , beans , cocoa and coffee .
The state is rich in natural resources . There are iron ore , mica , marble , limestone , coal , petroleum , gold , kaolin , cassiterite , columbite , tantalite , feldspar and dolomite promoted.
Kogi is one of the industrially developed states in Nigeria. There are a number of industrial companies . These include: Ajaokuta Iron and Steel Complex (ASC), Jakura Marble, Valley Food, Mopa Okura Sawmill, Idah Ceramic Company, Oil Palm Company and Nigeria Iron-Ore Manufacturing Company (NIOMCO).
