The Bistum Lokoja ( lat. : Dioecesis Lokoianus ) is in Nigeria preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Lokoja .

history

The diocese Lokoja was on February 21, 1955 by Pope Pius XII. Established from the cession of territory by the dioceses of Benin City and Kaduna and the Apostolic Prefecture of Oturkpo as the Apostolic Prefecture of Kabba . On July 6, 1964, the Apostolic Prefecture Kabba was by Pope Paul VI. raised to the diocese. The diocese of Kabba was renamed the Diocese of Lokoja on May 5, 1965 . On September 26, 1968, the Diocese of Lokoja gave up parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Idah .

The diocese of Lokoja is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Abuja as a suffragan .
