The Eesti Energia AS ( "Energy Estonia") is an Estonian energy company. The energy group is one of the most important suppliers of electricity and heat in Estonia. Oil shale as a domestic energy source is an essential energy resource . Eesti Energia is also involved in oil shale investments in other countries (e.g. Jordan ).

history

Eesti Energia was founded as a state energy company in 1939, one year before the Soviet occupation of Estonia. Eesti Energia is now 100% owned by the Republic of Estonia. The group currently employs 8,000 people. Eesti Energia has around 470,000 private customers and over 26,000 business customers. Its turnover in the 2008/2009 tax year was 677 million euros.

Subsidiaries

The Eesti Energia Group includes the subsidiaries Eesti Põlevkivi AS (extraction and use of oil shale), AS Narva Elektrijaamad (thermal power stations in Narva ), OÜ Iru Elektrijaam (thermal power station in Iru ), OÜ Põhivõrk (power transmission networks ) and OÜ Jaotusvrk (power lines to the end consumer) other companies. Eesti Energia also invests in renewable energies , especially in hydropower. The Linnamäe hydropower plant ( Linnamäe hüdroelektrijaam ) on the Jägala River is operated by Eesti Energia. Eesti Energia is co-owner of the 106 km long submarine power line Estlink between Finland and Estonia, which was inaugurated in December 2006. The group subsidiary Televõrgu AS has been offering high-speed internet connections since 2007.
