Jigawa is a federal state in the West African country of Nigeria with the capital Dutse . The largest city in the state is Hadejia with 110,761 inhabitants (2005).
geography
The state is located in the north of the country and is bordered to the north by the Republic of Niger , to the northwest by the state of Katsina , to the northeast by the state of Yobe , to the south and east by the state of Bauchi and to the west by the state of Kano . The state is located in the Nigerian part of the Chad Basin and is crossed by the headwaters of the Komadugu Yobe , the Hadeija and the Jama'are. At the height of the village of Hadeija, the Kafin Hausa branches off from the Hadeija and flows parallel to it, where the western foothills of the Hadejia-Nguru wetlands begin . The sector located in the state forms the Baturiya Wetlands Game Reserve , a wetland of international importance and has been a protected area of the Ramsar Convention since 2008 .
history
The state was formed on August 27, 1991 from part of the state of Kano . The first administrator was Olayinka Sule between August 28, 1991 and January 1992.
The current governor since May 29, 1999 is Saminu Turaki . Under him, the Sharia was introduced as the main source of justice.

These are: Auyo, Babura, Biriniwa, Birnin-Kudu, Buji, Dutse, Gagarawa, Garki, Gumel, Guri, Gwaram, Gwiwa, Hadejia, Jahun, Kafin-Hausa, Kazaure, Kiri-Kasama, Kiyawa, Kuagama, Maigatari, Malam -Maduri, Miga, Ringim, Roni, Sule-Tankakar, Taura and Yankwashi.

The main industry in Jigawa is agriculture . Around 90 percent of the working population are employed in it.
The state's mineral resources include kaolin , tourmalines , amethyst , marl stones , potash , iron ore , copper , gold , white quartz , clay and antimony .
