Ebonyi is a federal state in the West African country of Nigeria with the capital Abakaliki .
geography
The state is located in the southeast of the country and is bordered to the north by the state of Benue , to the south by the state of Abia , to the west by the state of Enugu and to the east by the state of Cross River .
history
The state was formed on October 1, 1996 from part of the states of Abia and Enugu . The first administrator was Walter Feghabo between October 7, 1996 and August 1998 . Dave Umahi has been the current governor since 2015 .

The state is divided into 13 Local Government Areas . These are: Abakaliki, Afikpo North, Afikpo South, Ebonyi, Ezza North, Ezza South, Ikwo, Ishielu, Ivo, Izzi, Ohaozara, Ohaukwu and Onicha.
economy
The majority of the working population in Ebonyi is employed in agriculture . There are coconuts , cocoa , corn , peanuts , rice , yams , bananas , cassava , melons , sugar cane , beans , fruits and vegetables grown. The fishing industry is also important .
The natural resources in Ebonyi include limestone , zinc , marble and salt .
