Choroses

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chorosen (Mongolian: Цорос / Choros) are one of the four main tribes of the Western Mongolian Oirats .

They originally lived south of the Altai Mountains and moved from 1600 to an area between Lake Balkhash and Urumqi . They also include the Olot (Mongolian: Өөлд / Ööld). They are from the 17th century in other languages as Zungars called (of Jüün Ghar ie "left wing"); from this the area name Dzungarei in today's China is derived.
