Chott Mariem

Chott Mariem (also Chott Meriem ) ( Arabic شط مريم, DMG Šaṭṭ Maryam ) is a small town in the Tunisian governorate of Sousse . Its name comes from the nearby salt lake .

The village extends for about seven kilometers along Route Touristique number 1, which leads from Sousse to Hergla . The approximately 8000 inhabitants live mainly from tourism (there are three international hotels in Chott Mariem) and from fishing, as the place is located directly on the Gulf of Hammamet .
