The Gulf of Hammamet ( Arabic خليج الحمامات, DMG Ḫalīǧ al-Ḥammāmāt ) is an extensive bay in northeastern Tunisia . It is located south of the Cap Bon peninsula and is named after Hammamet , the popular resort on the north-western coast of the Gulf. The fine sand of the gulf and the many hotels on its banks ensure a continuous influx of tourists. The Gulf of Gabès connects to the south . Other major cities on the banks of the Gulf of Hammamet are Sousse , Monastir and Nabeul .
